Neon, 2018, In Progress Pics

January 15, 2018

Happy New Year! I mean, I guess I already said that and all, and I was really hoping to get an illustrative work done before a design one, but I ended up with the Sparx Corp logo being my first finished project of 2018. It was a long time coming on that project, so it wasn’t like it was disappointing or anything, but still. I like starting my year off with drawings, don’t you?

Dolf, 2017, In Progress Pics

December 2, 2017

This picture started as an Inktober doodle!

Basically the idea behind this picture is simple enough… Azra’s an admitted animal lover. He’s not really super open about this fact, simply because, as an animal lover, people would expect someone who feels so passionately about animals to probably have a bunch of them, right? But Azra doesn’t own any. For the simple fact that it breaks his heart every time they die, and most animals don’t live very long, as opposed to Azra who lives, well as a vampire, forever. So he’s already dealing with the heartache of humans having relatively short lifespans in comparison to his own, but all these mini-heartbreaks along the way of something as selflessly loyal as a dog he just can’t stand to stomach.

Well, it looks like the artist calendar is finally dead. I’m not entirely upset about it — I mean, yeah, I’m sort of bummed that the project didn’t come together this year as it would have normally, but I’m slightly glad of it. It’s a bit stressful and chaotic trying to chase after files and get things settled sometimes.

Animal, 2017

I’m rather a fan of drawing my character Azra this way. I like drawing him looking almost dangerous but also a tad bit… sexy, in a way. This isn’t the first time I’ve drawn him with his tapetum lucidum or probably the last — a very animalistic trait of his that allows him to see in the dark.

Black 2.0 Review

August 1, 2017

This has actually been in the works for some time now. If my digital mock up means anything, this work has been getting pecked at since April! It all started with some black paint…

Stuart Semple has this paint available called “Black 2.0” which is billed as the Blackest Black available. There’s a whole story behind why Stuart Semple made this black, which involves a lot of funny things and a fued between him and artist Anish Kapoor about Vantablack. I saw a sample of it online and just had to have some. No idea what I was going to do with it, what would make the most sense to try it out on or what would look most successful in it, but I doodled something up. I wanted to work on a longer canvas, and I wanted to give a sort of brightness and darkness to it. I knew I wanted to use contrasting blackest black and the whitest white I could get (heavy body titanium white, nothing special). So I ordered. And I waited for the Blackest Black to come in from the UK.
